MA Climate Bill: Update

Hi All,

In case you haven't been following State news lately, Massachusetts has a pretty major climate bill on the Governor's desk right now.  He has through tomorrow to either sign or veto it.  There's a ton of support from the bill from advocate groups.  MA AIA and the BSA both wrote letters to the Governor in support.  This only happened because of significant effort by our local heroes on this list.  Built Environment Plus (formerly USGBC MA) also sent a letter with close to 400 individuals and over 60 companies in support.  Many local towns and cities support it as well.

The Governor is threatening to veto the bill.  The major opponents include developer and business organizations claiming that a Net Zero Stretch Code is going to be detrimental to the state because of increased costs.  I personally have devoted much of the past three years trying to dispel this myth.  There have been many people helping me.

We have an amazing group of green building professionals in MA, many of them on this list.  What we do in MA can impact what is possible in other states.  We need to up our game across the country on proving that ZNE buildings are affordable today.

I'm reaching out to you all for any ideas on how we change the current narrative.

Thanks in advance,

Meredith
