Exterior Building Lighting façade - MANDATORY PROVISIONS ASHRAE 90.1 - 2010

We are currently developing a large-scale lighting project for which we need to clear up some doubts about ASHRAE 90.1 regulations – section 9.4 – 2010 regarding exterior facade lighting.

Our question:

"We have a doubt regarding the exceptions for the lighting of the building façade for our TOWER. The permanent lighting of the tower does not exceed 50 KW, as ASHRAE requires. However, the tower has, also, a "multimedia facade" system that it will light up, only, during specific days and with this system they will exceed the total power installed. We need to know if, in this case, it can be an exception as both systems will never work out together."

So we can this multimedia facade lighting be qualified as "temporary lighting" ( Exception f of ASHRAE 90.1 – 2010 /section 9.4.3?

I would not consider it temporary as it sounds like it is permenatly installed. I would not consider tempory to mean the same thing as intermitently used. Is it advertising?

Thank you very much for your response.It's not for advertising, it is a decorative lighting for facadethat will be lit on special occasions in Morocco such as national holidays: Green March Festival, or other. It will be turned on for 5 days a year, no more. So, in this cas, we can qualify it as ASHRAE EXCEPTION: f.temporary lighting?  Or d. Lighting that is for theatrical purposes, including performance, stage and film and video production?  Many thanks,

I agree that temporary is probably the best fit of the exceptions but I still have the concern I shared in the response above.

Many thanks Dear Marcus. How do I get advice from USGBC on this matter? Is it mandatory through a CIRs (Credit Interpretation Request) or a simple question about LEED online is enough?  I'll appreciate your feedback.
