ND-Plan-v4 GIBp2:Minimum building energy performance

Which buildings need to be modeled?

Hi All,

The following is noted in the reference guide after Option 2:

AND For new single family residential buildings and new lowrise multifamily buildings, 90% of the total building floor area must meet the requirements of LEED for Homes v4 EA Prerequisite Minimum Energy Performance.

Is this required for all Options or just Option 3? Our project has four 4-storey or higher buildings and 30+ townhome buildings under 600 m2. All of our multi-residential and mixed-use buildings will follow Option 1, but the reference guide is quite unclear about the ramining buildings. Can someone confirm if these other buildings require

Tim, the Group 2 building requirement applies to a project independent of which option is used for Group 1 buildings. So if your 4-story and taller buildings are using Option 1, your townhome buildings must comply with LEED for Homes v4 EA prerequisite for minimum energy performance. The step-by-step section of the Reference Guide has a fairly detailed subsection on Group 2 building compliance. As a footnote, a January 2018 rating system addenda reworded the Group 2 requirement by replacing "multiunit residential buildings three stories or fewer" with "low rise multifamily buildings." Eliot, I appreciate your prompt response. We had assumed that that was the case but due to the ambiguity in the requirement section, and becuase our owner representatives were reading the requirements a different way, we wanted confirmation. Thanks so much again.
