CI-v4 EQc2:Low emitting materials

Zinc Anticorrosive Aerosol

Dear Collegues,

We are evaluating low emmisive compliance with Zinc Spray, used to repair any issues with anticorrosive paint that might occure afer installation of HVAC components. I believe zinc itself should not be harmfull or evaluated, but we are considering if other component of this spray product should be evaluated (General Emmision?). Product does not seem to fit in any categories highlited by LEED manual or relevant standards. Should we acount such product within EQc4 calculator or rather just include provisions regarding application into IAQ Plan? Or both? Will be greatful for your suggestions and experience.

Cheers,

Andrzej

Andrzej- Any paints and coatings that are used exclusively for touch-up after installation are exempt from EQc2 criteria.  It sounds like your product and application fit that description.  Hope that helps! Rebecca

Rebecca, is that clearly called out in the reference book, or is that just "common knowledge". I apparently have been making things more difficult than they needed to be in past projects!

Hi- There is an old LI for it, though it doesn't say it's applicable to v4.  https://www.usgbc.org/leedaddenda/5581.  I believe there was another one that was more explicit, but I can't find it, it may have been deleted in one of their purges. The v4 RG does have this, which clarifies that if a product doesn't fit into a category, it's not covered by the credit: This credit includes requirements for all product categories found in the referenced standards. Product categories that are not listed do not need to be tracked. I will say that we have never included touch-up or galvanizing repair paint in our Low-Emitting coatings submittals (500+ LEED projects so far) and never been questioned.  It would be nice if it was clearly stated in the RG that this is still the case.
