NC-v4 SSc5:Heat island reduction

SRI value for all paving materials are requested, where to find concrete SRI values?

Design reviewer suggested to Refer to LEED Interpretation 10411 for a listing of standard nonroof materials in lieu of project-specific testing data, if applicable.  But have not been able to access.   Could someonve advice? Thanks!

Hi, This Interpretation only seem to deal with Concrete. Is there an option for Limestone paving where no SR values are avilable from the supplier.

Limestone paving come in different colors, so if the manufacturer doesn't supply that information, you will probably need to get the material tested for SR values. It is not too expensive, and turnaround time is usually a couple of weeks. Make sure the test methods are in accordance with the version of LEED for your project (yes, they have changed between v2009 and v4).

If you put "LEED Interpretation 10411" in your browser search it should come up. The ruling is as follows: The following typical SR values can be used for standard nonroof materials, in lieu of project-specific testing data:

Typical Solar Reflectance Values for Standard Nonroof Materials
Gray cement concrete- Initial Solar Reflectance: 0.26, Three-Year Aged Solar Reflectance*: 0.18
White cement concrete- Initial Solar Reflectance: 0.70, Three-Year Aged Solar Reflectance*: 0.35
Asphalt concrete- Initial Solar Reflectance: 0.05, Three-Year Aged Solar Reflectance*: 0.10

*Three-year aged SR values are based on no cleaning.

Alternatively, documentation showing that the current concrete mix and sealant are equivalent to a tested mix and sealant from a previous project is acceptable, provided that all ingredients are the same and have not changed.
