Hi Emily - good question. Fitwel's v2.1 requirements are much more strict than LEED v4.1... you have to ban all tobacco products (not just smoking) and you can't have any distance requirements (you have to ban on the entire site / property). Maybe you could ask Fitwel to provide an example of their ideal signage. I'd be interested to see how they phrase all the requirements succinctly! Maybe something like "Use of all tobacco and cannabis products is prohibited onsite"?

We had instruction from Fitwel; they seem more focused on the language specifically addressing tobacco, despite what their manual says:
"There are two main things to watch out for when providing the signs:
I ended up emailing LEED Coach a little while after my post with a proposed approach. We came up with a succinct-as-we-could-make-it statement that we thought captured all possible substances:
"In previous projects, we were able to simplify the sign to read 'No smoking within 25 feet of building'.
Please confirm if "All tobacco use and smoking prohibited within 25 feet of building" is sufficient to meet the requirements, or if you have other concise, suggested phrasing."
Their response:
"'All tobacco use and smoking prohibited within 25 feet of building' would be acceptable. It would be acceptable to continue to use the same language that you've used previously for the signage. The LEED v4.1 BD+C Guide includes the following guidance on page 206: "Tips for good signage include drawings, photos or signage with language communicating clearly interior and exterior no smoking policy, or explicit language such as ‘no smoking allowed within xx feet’ and ‘smoking is allowed in designated smoking areas only’ and indicate on signage what those areas are etc."
So, "All tobacco use and smoking prohibited within 25 feet of building" seems to capture the requirements of both. That's what we're using for now, or until someone can come up with something shorter to simplify the signs.

That sounds great except I was pretty sure that under Fitwel v2.1, they don't allow any mention of distance requirements... but maybe you're working under v2.0? Thanks for laying all that information out, it's super helpful for other projects.

Yes, this particular project is Fitwel v2.
The req's under v2.1 state "Signage that indicates smoking is allowed on site, within a certain distance from doors, windows, or
vent ducts, is not permitted and does not qualify for this strategy."
I'm not sure how they expect projects that are also pursuing LEED to meet this requirement. For our particular project, for example, it is basically a zero lot line circumstance. In our case, banning smoking on the "site" doesn't matter and is not enforceable b/c it's surrounded by public right-of-way. If signage just stated "site" then it wouldn't meet the LEED requirements, which has the 25' standoff regardless of zero lot line or not.
I know this will come up at some point, and assume at that time that we'd have to contact Fitwel and see what their expectations would be.

We have a smoke-free campus. Will a sign that states "Tobacco Free Campus. Smoking and the use of tobacco products are prohibited on this campus".
Will this meet this prerequisite with signs posted at each building elevation, not necessarily within 25 feet of each entrance?

Hi guys, need a piece of advice. If I am starting to use your software, where to start my acquaintance with it? What should I know as a starting point? I am from the UK, Weymouth webcam. I followed a few threads on the forum, but some answers puzzle me. So I decided to start from the very beginning and learn all the nuances of the soft. I will appreciate your suggestions.
