Mass Timber Conversation at Winter Summit

My firm didn't have representation at the winter summit, but I've just read the report (thank you, RoseAnn!), and was really glad to see there was conversation around mass timber. I'd love to talk with anyone who was involved in that roundtable to get a deeper download about the discussion. We've been doing a lot of mass timber buildings and while some here are happy to just accept "wood is better" and move on, some of us are trying to dig deeper into the surrounding issues and understand where we are really going with this movement. We are talking about deforestation, forest management practices, where the wood is sourced, how the products are manufactured, etc. but don't currently have enough data to really understand all the impacts - positive and negative.

If there's anyone who was involved in that discussion who'd be up for maybe a phone call, please let me know. We can also discuss here, of course! Thanks.

Hey Audrey - we've been dealing with all of those same questions and shared a 5 minute at the SDL summit on exactly this topic. Happy to discuss via phone so we can get into the nitty gritty details and share knowledge. There were great conversations within the SDL discussion as well, so if others from that group wanted to be part of the conversation, that would be welcome - if there's enough interest, we can set up something more official and webinar-based.

I participated in these conversations w/ Kristen Dotson and others at the Winter Summit and definitely want to be part of the ongoing conversation!

I, too, was following at the Winter Summit and would also like to be a part of the ongoing conversation. In particular, I was intrigued by the level of detail Kristen was able to drill to in the Pacific Northwest and would love to see this group get to that level of detail for wood all across the country!

Me too, please. We've spent quite a bit of time and effort on wood products/CLT from Alabama and Louisiana. We'd like to ask better questions (aligned questions) of the forestry industry in the south, to compare to some of the PNW info. Thanks!

Thanks, everyone! It sounds to me like there's enough interest to justify reviving and building upon this conversation in a group and/or webinar format. Maybe I will reach out to Kristen Dotson separately and we can try to coordinate something?

I was fortunate to be part of the discussion at SDL Winter Summit and would like to continue being part of the ongoing conversation.

Hi all - just wanted to update to let you know we are working on getting a BuildingGreen webinar on the schedule to kick off this conversation. Kristen Dotson from Miller Hull will share more from her recent presentation at the winter summit, and more content TBD. We should have the date/time confirmed soon.
