We have a project with a Roof / Terrace space. This space has turf areas and also some Planters; along with the walkable "pavers" and concrete areas. There are also some shade Structures on this these roof terraces.
We are looking for advice on how GBCI wants us to calculate the turf areas and planter areas for heat island. Are they excluded from the roof total?
are they accounted for in another manner?
thank you

Hi Lou,
The way the credit form has things broken out, there is no way to record the pedestrian roof areas that are not typical roofing where it seems they should logically be. Maybe someone else will have some better insight here, but for now, we've been including the accessible roof areas with pavers (and the like) in the non-roof table, and if there is vegetated area on the roof, that SF goes on its own line on the form. The regular roofing material info stays by itself in the roof table.
Although not necessarily applicable to v4, v4.1 changes did clarify this specific aspect. From LEEDuser's v4.1 page: "The credit clarifies that functional/usable spaces located on roofs may meet the requirements of nonroof measures (as these spaces are poor candidates for highly reflective materials)."
Hope that helps.
