Plug loads Process Loads savings vs baseline

Hi All,

Is it possible and if so, how would you justify savings in plug and process loads for an interior fit out energy model vs baseline? Can you claim a percentage reduction if

100% of the proposed equipment is Energy Star,

100% of receptacles are turnedd off outside office hours and

There is planned good user behaviour by turning off the equipment when not in use?

If you are following the modeling option you must do an exceptional calculation. If following the other option then it is based on Energy Star equipment.

Hi Marucs, Can we clam saving on Building plug load using energy star equipment for office space and dining area? Such as the allownce for plug load for office buildinf 1.6 watt/sft and we try to make it it 1 watt/sft, in that case can we clain saving at concept stage? it is not for LEED certification,  i have confusion, as i know , we cant claim saving on this, we need to make same in both models i.e Basleine and Proposed

I'm confused by your questions. If it is not for LEED certification I am not sure why you are posting it here? That said your plug load allowances seem very high compared to ASHRAE or COMNET values. You can claim savings for Energy Star equipment in LEED following an exceptional calculation. You can't claim savings simply based on a difference in plug load power density, you have to compare the equipment expected to be installed in the project.

Hi Marcus, I am sorry to reopen this thread but I was just curious to know the exceptional calculation you are talking about for an energy start equipment in LEED. Can you brief the exceptional calculation? Thanks and appreciate your time.

In an exceptional calculation you first of all model the plug loads as identical. You then perform the exceptional calculations to show savings. Make sure to provide a narrative that explains your calculations and thoroughly explains and justifies your baseline assumptions. The Energy Star website will often show the savings associated with a particlar appliance.
