CS-2009 IEQc4.4:Low-Emitting Materials—Composite Wood and Agrifiber Products

Product with Melamine Formaldehyde Resins and Urea Formaldehyde Resins Meeting CARB Emissions

I have a composite wood product that contains:

- Urea formaldehyde resin used as glue.

- Melamine formaldehyde resin as a coating.

The product is  certified to /California Air Resources Board (CARB) regulation CCR-17-93120.2(a) – Phase 2/.

I would like to know if the product meets the credit requirements.

Thank you.

Hi Mario, Without more information, it is difficult to say if it meets credit requirements. Composite wood has to meet the ultra low emitting formaldehyde (ULEF) standard, not just CARB Phase 2 emissions requirements. There are testing protocols etc that need to be followed in order to meet ULEF. I'd check with the manufacturer (technical documentation should tell if it is ULEF) or go to CARB and check their list.   Hope this helps. Brent
