NC-v4 EQc2:Low emitting materials

Concrete bonding agent below slab on grade

We have to use a strong concrete bonding agent below a 2 to 3" Slab on grade to stick with the concrete foundation below the structure. In this situation does the concrete bonding agent have to be VOC compliant?

Hi Debra - has this product been tested in accordance with the CDPH Standard Method v1.1 (LEED v4 General Emissions criteria), or CDPH Standard Method v1.2 (LEED v4.1 VOC Emissions criteria)?

Hi Debra, Yes we have considered Intralok but they do not have CDPH test available. I already contacted the manufacturer few weeks back asking for the information.

"In this situation does the concrete bonding agent have to be VOC compliant?" No. This product won't come in contact with the indoor air. It is not applicable. I also recommend you look at the v4.1 updates for this credit. The v4.1 updates are much more user friendly.

Hi Martha - Is there a LEED CIR for this or a line in the reference guide? And Yes, we are considering LEED v4.1.

Vandita, see the LEED Interpretation 3716 at https://www.usgbc.org/content/li-3716 posted by Debra. "all materials that emit contaminants that have the potential to enter the indoor air will be considered as indoor sources of contaminants. Materials which have the potential to communicate their emissions to the indoor air include all indoor surfaces in contact with the indoor air..." Also, the reference guide has handy pictures to help with understanding the distinction.

WR Meadows did inform me that Intralok is not in planning to be tested for VOC emissions at this point.
