NC-v4 LTc6:Bicycle facilities

Bicycle storage on public parking shared with other buildings

In the project, we are locating the bicycle storage in a garage that is shared with other buildings. LEED has replied that it is not clear that a sufficient number has been provided. How can I address  this? Have someone been in the same position?

Hello Russell: You can provide following:  a. A narrative and a revised site plan highlighting how the short-term and long term bicycle storage facilities are part of the project scope and/or will be allocated to the LEED project building.
OR
b. Supplemental calculations confirming that sufficient bicycle storage and shower facilities have been provided to serve all occupants with access to the amenities, including individuals who are not part of this LEED project. Hope this help! Thank you.

Hi everyone,

We have a similar situation with shared shower facilities (shower facilities in an adjacent campus building) where we will need to provide "supplemental calculations" showing there are enough showers being provided to serve all occupants with access. Has anyone had success with this route (option B above)? Does "supplemental calculation" refer to the LEED bike facilities equation (page 105 of the v4 BD+C guide)?  Thank you in advance, Kelli

Supplemental Calculation could be:  LEED Form showing the campus visitors and campus regular occupants, accordingly the compliant numbers of short term, long-term bicycle, and shower facilities to meet the campus occupant. Compliant distance to both short and long-term facilities. Supporting documentation showing short-term, long-term bicycle, and shower facilities, bicycle network, and covered long-term bicycle facilities (Supporting documentation, as required).

Hi Kelli, On my similar projects, we've gotten the occupancy info from the client for any additional building/people that have access to the showers and/or racks, and showed that our quantity met the minimum required when combined as an overall total FTE. The only other way I know of is to add signage indicating that certain racks are only for the occupants of your building (doesn't really work the same way for showers).
