This credit is particularly achievable for projects without wetlands or water bodies present onsite. If your project is locating on previously developed land, Option 1 is straightforward to pursue.
The requirements get more complex if your project pursues Option 2. Under this option, you’ll need to avoid developing on various sensitive land types as outlined in the credit requirements.
What’s New in LEED v4.1
- “Minor improvements” within wetlands and buffer zones are no longer permitted.
Should I upgrade?
Projects locating on previously developed land are not affected by the change to this credit. If your project includes wetlands and buffer zones, upgrading to v4.1 can produce better environmental outcomes by limiting intrusion into sensitive land. If you were already planning to make minor improvements to a wetland or within a buffer zone, and you can’t adjust your approach, you should stick with v4 for this credit.
