Fitwel for schools?

Hi, curious if anyone in the group has considered using Fitwel in an existing (built) school project (K-12).

Would be interested in hearing your experiences and if this tool is a good fit for this type of project.

Hi Gwen, I believe Fitwel is still only for MURBs and office space at the moment. WELL is an option, and depending on size might be cheaper in the end. Cheers, Sam Lane

We’ve looked at Fitwel for a few existing higher ed buildings. As Sam says, it really isn’t intended for anything but offices and multifamily housing. That said, it includes a few nice ideas that can be helpful to design teams. It doesn’t hit the breadth of topics we think are important for health and wellness, so if you do go with Fitwel, you will probably also want to independently address acoustics, air quality/HVAC, glare, greenery/vegetation/biophilia, and thermal comfort above and beyond the basic Fitwel standards. You might want to keep your eye on the new version of Fitwel scheduled for release in June – they may make it relevant for more buildings types.
