Wire safety glazing (existing) considered a fritt/pattern?

We are working on a major renovation to a historic structure that retains the old school wired glass (with new clear  storm windows). Has anyone had experience pursuing this credit with that? I'm wondering if it would be considered a fritt/pattern or if we could be granted an exception as it is a historic structure.
