Hello, are there any good trainings you recommend taking to learn more about Passive House?

How much demand are people seeing from clients?  I've had clients ask for recommendations for other rating systems (non-LEED) but haven't had any ask directly for Passive House.

Amanda,

The PHIUS website has some information and FAQ about their rating system.  http://www.phius.org/what-is-passive-building/passive-house-principles

There
are also some webinars saved on YouTube.

My summary of the system.
- Has a strict limit on energy use per floor area. This is based on measured energy use, not modeled. But modeling helps shape your design.
- Typically has lots of insulation.  20-40-60 type levels.  (20-underground, 40-walls, 60-roof) Does vary based on climate and modeling.
- Air tight envelope.  Will require ERV or HRV for fresh air.
- Normal sized windows.  Curtainwall will lose too much energy.  High quality windows.  South windows are different than other sides.
- It was started for single family homes, but now gets applied to all sorts of commercial buildings.

Hi Amanda,
Just found this Discussion Forum page and your question from 2 years ago. If you, or others, are still looking for Passive House / Passivhaus info:

Passive House Accelerator has great content at https://passivehouseaccelerator.com/ along with an intro PH101 page.

North American Passive House Network offers an on-demand 1-hour class (https://naphnetwork.org/education/introductory/ ) and a scheduled live on-line 1-day (6 hours) intro course (https://naphnetwork.org/education/introductory/overview/ ) plus more in depth trainings and professional certification.

Passive House Institute United States (PHIUS) offers trainings for professional certifications (https://www.phius.org/become-a-professional )

@Bill, a lot. Passive House has exploded this past year. I've seen projects where it's not even a consideration going from Energy Star/basics to full PH builds in the span of a few months. Everyone is getting the Passive House bug, ha! It's only going to intensify as we go foward with codes become more and more difficult. I welcome it.

@Amanda, EMU is a good one. Also consider reading manf install guides such as Siga, Dorken Delta, 475 HP, etc. should give you a nice start to airsealing basics for PH. You can expand from there.
