NC-v4 EAp2:Minimum energy performance

Baseline dehumidification

Hello,

I am modeling a residential building with dehumidification. A central unit that injects the outdoor air for the dwelling units and common zones controls the humidity using cooling and heating coils. The HVAC system for this building is #2, according to ASHRAE 90.1 2010. In LEED reference guide, in the Table 3 in the Minimum Energy Performance EA prerequisite there is a note about modeling this systems in the baseline.

“In this situation, model a DOAS in the baseline design using the same volume of outdoor air as for the proposed design, but with the same efficiency and efficiency curves as the baseline HVAC systems. Additionally, the baseline fan power allowance would be separated between the DOAS and the baseline system using the same ratio as the proposed system.”

Can I include cooling and heating coils for humidity control in the Baseline DOAS equipment as in the proposed design?

Assuming you have the same problem as described in the paragraph above the portion you highlighted then yes. Also note the rest of the guidance above what you are quoting. Humidification should be modeled identically (same schedule and settings). Make sure you provide a complete narrative explaining what you have done and how you did it. Otherwise the reviewer will be just left to wonder why you are not following Appendix G to the letter of the law.

Thank you Marcus. Could you help me with this other question I posted in this forum? It is also related to this project. https://leeduser.buildinggreen.com/forum/oa-baseline-model-residential-building
