Forum moderation questions and feature requests

  1. How can an Editor delete, hide or updated posts that others create.  We need to take down some of the test posts but there may be cases where something posted is incorrect or not appropriate.
  2. When a BIT Expert is assigned to a Best Practice, is there a setting that will send them an email any time a new question is added to their BP.  During testing, we received an email once the Expert responded once, but not when a new question was initially posted.
  3. When a Premium user creates a post, they have the ability to edit their post as well.  They also have the ability to edit the Best practice field.  Can we make this read-only or restrict the Premium user from being able to create topics.  When testing our Premium user account, we edited the BP field and it did not overwrite the existing BP but created a new one.  (See attached image)

How can an Editor delete, hide or updated posts that others create.  We need to take down some of the test posts but there may be cases where something posted is incorrect or not appropriate.   There is an "Edit" button at the top left, which should allow editors to edit or delete any posts (see attached screenshot). However, editors do not currently have permission to unpublish (hide) posts.  We can give editors that ability, but it comes with a raft of other powers which might be overwhelming. Let me know if I should do that. Dennis, should I give you the Drupal admin role? I don't see any reason not to. (I'll answer your other questions separately.)

When a BIT Expert is assigned to a Best Practice, is there a setting that will send them an email any time a new question is added to their BP.  During testing, we received an email once the Expert responded once, but not when a new question was initially posted. This is easily fixed by subscribing the expert to their assigned Best Practice. By default people only get an email notification in response to their post, as you've seen, but if they click on the "Subscribe to new discussions about BP##" button they'll be notified for all new posts. You will need the admin role to do this, so I went ahead and gave it to you. Here's how to set up the subscriptions:
  1. Click on the name of the Expert to see their profile [example].
  2. Above his name you'll see a text link that says "Masquerade as Ben Stanley." That will allow you to view and interact with the site as if you were him.
  3. Navigate to his assigned Best Practice(s) and click on the "Subscribe to new discussions" link.
  4. When you're done masquerading as him, click on the "My account" link at the top right to return to "your" (Ben's) profile.
  5. Above his name, you'll see the text "You are masquerading as ben.stanley@wsp.com. Switch back." Click on the "switch back" link.
  6. Repeat for all the other experts.

(See attached image) Wow, something very weird is happening there! Ben and I will tackle it tomorrow during our weekly team meeting.

Hi Dennis, Your third request is now fixed.  The "Best Practice" field is now read-only. We also removed the extra items from the Forum Filter dropdown. I disabled the ability for Premium Users to edit a post once it's already been created. They probably won't even see the Edit tab on the top left, so I don't think this is a great loss. But I can restore that permission if you want. Andrea

I think what you did was perfect.  Thank you for making these last minute adjustments. One final note, is it okay if I delete the rest of the sample forum questions?

One final note, is it okay if I delete the rest of the sample forum questions? Good lord yes! You can also obliterate the two sample expert accounts, unless you want to keep Vladimir Lenin kicking around as an easter egg ;-)
