Dear All,

 

We would like to clarify some questions regarding credit for Bicycle Facilities.

 

If bicycle storage (racks) are located inside enclosed carparks:

 

 

  1. the 180 m walking or bicycling distance between the racks and the bicycle network requirement applies:
    1. from the bicycle network to the enclosed carparks entrance ?

OR

  1. from the bicycle network to the bicycle racks ?

 

  1. Does the 30 m walking distance between the racks and a main entrance applies ? Main entrances from enclosed carparks are, commonly elevators / stairs. Racks installed inside enclosed carparks need to be located in the vicinity (less than 30 m) of these elevators / stairs ?

We have a similar situation where we are certifying two buildings under one LEED application. They share an underground parkade but bike parking is provided on one end of the parkade, close to the elevator for building 1, but further than 100 ft from building 2's elevator. Would this still meet the intent of the credit. Cheers, Tim

Distance to the bike network is measured from the walkable or bikeable distance from the network to a functional entrance of the project building. See reference guide for definition of functional entrance. Short-term bike storage must be located within 100 feet walkable or bikeable distance from the main building entrance. Long-term bike storage must be located within 100 feet walkable or bikeable distance from a functional entrance. GBCI has informed me that bike storage location(s) located within the building OR under cover OR outside the LEED Project Boundary must also adhere to all the distance requirements outlined within the reference guide.

Hi All, Yesterday was wonderful, we finally got the release of LEED v4.1 and it is my understanding that with the release of LEED v4.1 that projects will be able to substitute v4 credits with v4.1 credits. Per the v4.1 beta guide, found here: https://build.usgbc.org/bdc41betareq and the LEED credit Library found here: https://www.usgbc.org/credits/new-construction/v4.1. The requirement for Short-term bicycle storage now must be within 200 feet (60 meters) walking distance of any main entrance. Long-term bicycle storage must now be within 300 feet (90 meters) walking distance of any functional entry. Vertical distances traveled by elevator are exempt from counting towards the walking distance requirements.  Hope that helps,  Tim

When there is a carparking below the building, can the elevator connecting the carpark be considered a main entrance?
