Home page design

I am now embarking on the home page design, but before I get started I need input on what you'd like to have there. The style tiles/tidbits provided by Southface includes a home page mockup that's very similar to LEEDuser, which is fine with me, but I don't want to implement it and then find out you want something radically different.

I've attached the mockup from the style tiles. Not all the content is relevant for BITuser — for example, BITuser doesn't need a complicated "Jump to a credit" selector, since there are only 16 Best Practices.

Here's what I think we should include below the top/intro section with the video:

  • The "Join the Discussion" section, with links to the most recent forum posts.
  • An explanatory spiel about BIT Building and a link to the main site.

I'm not sure we need much else on the home page, unless you want to highlight an individual BP.

Thoughts?

I would like to see closer style alignment between the Salesforce BIT Community Portfolio environment and BITUser if possible.  Not to say they have to be a perfect match, but they are not currently in complete harmony with each other. It's not my call on what that should be so I defer to Shane and the design team for their feedback.  I would also like to add additional elements on the BIT Portfolio Dashboard that link to BITUser directly for a more seamless user experience.  I have the ability to pull in JSON content like the "Discussion Feed" for example.

Coordinating the two sites sounds like a good idea to me. The goal, I think, is to have them look related but not in a way that confuses users about which site they're on. Do we need to also coordinate with https://bitbuilding.org?  Or is that going to be the URL for the Salesforce site?

Please do not use the current content at bitbuilding.org. That content will be replaced with the salesforce site sometime in late September. Dennis, can you give them a login to the site, so they can see the portfolio dashboard as well? Thanks. shane M. Thanks. How final would you say the design is? Does it still need more refinement? I don't want to try to match a design that's still in a draft stage. (Obviously draft/dummy content is no problem.)

The site design is pretty set. There may be minor tweaking, but the general aesthetic and organization won’t change before the launch. M. Shane Totten, AIA, LEED AP BD+C Director, Research + Incubation Interim Director, Education + Training office: 404.604.3588 F

Hi... I'm still waiting for a decision on what content should appear on the home page.  Please click through to the forum using the link below and review my original post. Thanks,
Andrea

Yes, what you suggested above and in the screenshot will work nicely.
  • The "Join the Discussion" section, with links to the most recent forum posts;
  • An explanatory spiel about BIT Building and a link to the main site;
  • Introduction to BIT User video;
I also agree that a jump to the Best Practices is not necessary since there is a dropdown to them at the top. Does this help?  I don't know what else could be included.  The above explains what it is; how to use it; and joining the discussions.
