NC-v4 EAp2:Minimum energy performance

Transitioning from V3 to V4

Hi,

The project in question is registered for V3 and was on hold for 5 years. The energy modelling and LEED forms were completed however the project was not submitted for review. The design team is reviewing the possibility of pursuing LEED v4 now . Will the energy modelling have to be re run using ASHRAE 90.1.2010 or can they continue to use 90.1.2007 . The intention is to upgrade the registration to v4 and use credit substitution methodology to pursue LEED certification. Can anyone guide me how the energy modelling / credits  will work in this instance? Thank you.

If you upgrade to v4 you will need to change the models to comply with 90.1-2010. The forms are even different. So you could probably still use most of your proposed model and just update the baseline. This should not be too difficult to do but you will find that 2010 has some mandatory provisions, like daylighting in perimeter spaces and occupancy controls for plug loads, that the design will need to comply with. If you stay with v3 you can use the applicable v4 credit substitutions but it does not go the other way around. You can't use v3 credits as substitutes in v4.

Thank you for your response. So does it mean that if I maintain v3 and opt for credential substitution I still need to model as per ASHARE 90.2010. how does the energy credits work in credit substitution? Thank you

You can model according to 2010 and there is an interpolation table you use to determine the points you earn. Basically the percent savings associated with the points are reduced. Technically this is not really a credit substitution. Here is a list of credit substitutions allowed - https://www.usgbc.org/articles/new-leed-v4-credit-substitutions-2009-projects Here is the 2010 interpolation table - https://www.usgbc.org/resources/ashrae-901-2010-adjusted-point-scale-leed-v2009-projects
