Schools-NC-v4 WEp2:Indoor water use reduction

Dishwasher Water Consumption -- what mode?

Hello,

The LEED v4 NC Schools guide stipulates that dishwashers must be Energy Star certified as well consume less than 6.0 liters/rack. For dishwashers with multiple programs or modes, does the consumption requirement need to meet the dishwasher's automatic setting or the heaviest consumption setting?

As an example, if dishwasher has a setting for heavily soiled items, does that need still need meet the <6 litres/rack? =

Thank you in advance!

I have not had this come up on a project yet, but I can see this going two ways: A) I know for other credits where devices have multiple settings, you must assume worst case, as there is usually no way you can guarantee that the users won't always use the highest setting. You would therefore need all cycles not to exceed 6.0 liters/rack. B) The other water calcs are based on typical use by regular occupants, rather than by peak events, which would be an atypical calculation of use. In this case, you would use the most regularly anticipated cycle as the criteria to meet the limit. I'm kind of leaning towards A in this case in the interest of safety. If you want official clarity before attempting it, though, you can email GBCI through the contact page and ask for additional guidance. Please share back here if you decide to go that route.

Hi Emily, Thank you for your response. I recently emailed the LEED Coach to clarify and she confirmed that it would be your option A -- all cycles cannot exceed 6.0 litres/rack.

Hi Christine,  Did the LEED Coach clarify if the requirement is for a maximum/heavy wash setting or for a normal setting? Thanks!
