NC-v4 EAp3:Building-level energy metering

Building Addition Energy Metering

Proposed LEED project involves only a building addition in a campus setting where portion is served by new mechanical equipment and portion by existing building mechanical equipment. Dedicated energy or water meters won’t be provided for addition. Is there an alternative compliance path for this prerequisite?

If you want LEED certification you will be providing meters for the addition. No ACP I am aware of.

Prerequisite states permanent meters are required. Would energy and water submeters meet intent? Would existing mechanical equipment proposed to serve addition need to be repowered from electrical circuits downstream addition submeters?

Yes all fuel sources and water will need to be metered, submeters will work. I don't think you necessarily need to move the circuits. You will need to meter all the energy used by the addition. The intent is that you will be able to evaluate the energy and water use of the addition post-occupancy. This could entail multiple meters that are then added together to determine the total. Each fuel source does not have to be measured by a single meter so I would design the metering system that met the credit requirements at the lowest cost.

I have a project similar to the scenario described above.  It is an addition to an existing building.  As part of the work, though, we will also be performing a small tenant improvement in the existing portion, right at the portion that connects to the new addition.  The addition will be served by a new meter and the tenant improvement will be in a portion that is served by the existing meter.  Does the TI need to be included in this prerequisite?  How would we handle that?
