NC-v4 EQc1:Enhanced indoor air quality strategies

Walk Off Mats in classrooms with exterior doors

In the past we have just placed a typical walk off mat at the door in classrooms that have exterior doors. These are typical kindergarten classrooms that empty right onto the playground. I have not found or heard anything with LEEDv4 that would say this would not work.  These walk off mats would not be ten feet, probably 3 at the most. Has anyone submitted a v4 project with the similar issue or hears as to how GBCI is dealing with this situation?

Our one thought is to provide a high performance walk off mat that has better performance than a normal one at ten feet.

Hi Todd, I've found that the length requirement is treated pretty strictly by GBCI, unless the space can't physically accommodate a 10 foot mat. There's an FAQ about this under NC-2009 IEQc5: Indoor Chemical and Pollutant Source Control - I'm not aware that anything has changed with v4.

I agree with Trista. Very strict about the length.
