MRpc103 - Integrative Analysis of Building Materials in NC 2009

I recently completed the work effort for MRpc103 - Integrative Analysis of Building Materials for a v4 project, and had a v2009 project with an open innovation credit. I checked to see if it was available to v2009 projects, and was happy to see my v2009 project can pursue it. This credit requires teams to complete an analysis of building products from human health (HPD), environmental impacts (EPD), and safety impacts. It is an interesting exercise. Some phases of the life cycle in all three areas were definitely easier to fill out than others.

I recently went through this exercise on a v4 project and found it was useful in choosing materials. By applying for this credit, we were also finding products that applied to other credits within the MR tag.

We have previously had success on this pilot credit for a LEED v4 Core & Shell. I am now submitting it for review for a LEED v4 for Schools project. I've selected three different manufacturers for insulation, ceiling panels and a floor covering. The EPD, HPD & SDS material seemed to be the most helpful. I do agree that it helps with the MR credits.

I've noticed while documenting this pilot credit, for v4 BD+C New Construction projects, that some manufacturers have more applicable information/certificates available than others. Those manufacturers are: Armstrong (ceiling), Owens Corning (insulation), Sherwin Williams (paint), and USG (sheathing, ceiling, etc.).
