CS-v4 EAp2:Minimum energy performance

Warehouse baseline system

Dear all,

We are working with a logistics center located in Lelystad, Netherlands, it has a warehouse zone of approximately 124,640 m2. According to ASHRAE, this region is catalogued as a climatic zone type 5, therefore this project is considered as ‘conditioned’ according to Table 3.1 Heated Space Criteria (heating output 15 Btu/h ft2). Currently there is a debate regarding the warehouse’s conditioning considerations which is either installing an only heating system or a heating and cooling system. Our inquiry is regarding the baseline system selection. If the selected system has heating and cooling, the warehouse’s baseline system should be a System 7 or System 8?

But if the selected system is an only heating system, the warehouse should be a System 9 or System 10? Or could it still be between a System 7 or 8 with its cooling temperature setpoints so that the cooling never operates?

Thank you very much in advance.

Heated and cooled - given the size it would be a 7/8. Heated only - a 9/10. The last method you mention was used in LEED 2009 projects as a work around related to the requirement that all spaces should be heat and cooled even if a cooling system (or heating system) was not installed. This was pretty much eliminated when the heating only systems were added in 90.1-2010.
