A'18 AIA Conference on Architecture

The AIA conference is coming up soon as well.  It is scheduled for June 19-23 in NYC. I have heard about a lot of great sessions and I am thinking it would be helpful if we could collect info here.  Please respond to this message with info about your session and I will compile all of this into a handy reference document.  I will start with my session:

SA-102 - Saturday, 8:00am

Location:  the New School

http://conferenceonarchitecture.com/schedule/#poster-358207

Jean Hansen, Susan Kaplan, Tanja Meija and myself will be presenting "Holding Ourselves to Higher Standards: Healthy Materials Every Time"

And I haven't heard anything about a meet-up.  Is there anything planned for that?

Looks like COTE already has a great list--thanks, Mary Ann! Anne--let me know if you think we still a more targeted SDLeaders sessions list--we can work with you on that. And about the Meet-up: The COTE Top Ten Toast seems to be where many/most of us naturally gather anyway. But we also have some serious celebrating of new Fellows and other achievements to do--so maybe we go out after the Toast to keep partying? (I'd suggesting meeting somewhere before the Toast, but that conflicts with the new Fellows celebration...)

Z Smith, Larry Strain, Stephanie Carlisle and I are presenting at 8:45am at the New School on 6/21/18. Session is titled “How to Design for a Rapidly Changing World”. Here is the description and I hope to see some of you there! For decades, many architects have designed with a relatively stable set of conditions, with systems that were designed based on the historic records of an unchanging climate. Things have changed. How should architects design buildings to last 50 or 100 years when conditions are undergoing radical transformation? How should you design a parking structure when the private car may largely disappear? With the electric grid rapidly transitioning to renewables, should you focus instead on embodied carbon? Join award-winning designers for a provocative rethinking of program, materials, and the opportunities for great future-flexible design in a carbon-constrained world. I’m part of a session at both Living Future, and AIA A’18. At Living Future: DPR Construction: A Legacy of Authenticity and Action towards Zero Energy https://2018.livingfutureunconference.org/event/dpr-construction-a-mission-of-authenticity-and-action-to-achieve-zero-energy/ The talk will look at three projects where SmithGroup and DPR collaborated to create a NZE office for DPR. One past (NZEB certified), one present (currently in its performance period towards NZEB), and one future (currently in design. At A’18: The Showdown: Navigating Conceptual Modeling to Drive High-performance Design http://conferenceonarchitecture.com/schedule/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIoeaXhsbl2gIVicpkCh2C2ArrEAAYASADEgJC8fD_BwE#poster-358289 The session explores an internal competition we created at SmithGroup to both test drive various conceptual performance modeling tools, as well as to drive change to our design culture towards more performance-based design.
