CI-v4 MRp1:Storage and collection of recyclables

Contracted Waste and Recycling Service

I have a LEED CI project in a building whose contracted waste service does not provide glass recycling due to "depressed markets" and provides single-stream waste and recycling pickup. The FAQ here and the LEED reference guide suggest that 1) that you don't need to put in the bin for glass if there is no recycling infrastructure and 2) single stream waste and recycling is ok with an adequate description and reference to the municipal policy but what about in cases like this where the municipality recycles glass and offers separate recycling and waste pickup but the contracted waste service does not?

Hi, Summer.  I've never had them delve into what particular waste service is contracted (operations), but rather whether sufficient space has been provided for collection and storage (design).  The goals is to design a designated space(s) which facilitates recycling.  Whether they elect to use it is outside of the designer's control.

Thanks Jim. This is classic case of my overthinking it. Our plan here will be to provide a single stream waste/recycling bin at each workstation plus common area locations with enough volume/capacity to accommodate the addition of glass should the service become available in the future.
