NC-2009 PIf3:Occupant and Usage Data

PIf3 Total number of residents

I have a Hospital project with one question on Table Plf3-3 Total number of residents:

NOTE: Assume two residents per one-bedroom unit, three residents per two-bedroom unit, etc., unless there is reason to assume a different occupancy.

1. How do I calculate the numbers of residents in this seccion.?

2. Its any variable about of the numer of beds of the hospital.?

Thanks in advance for any help

What kind of hospital? Your description sounds like long-term care apartments. Inpatient hospitals in the US would use 1 'resident' per bed. My recommendation is to use 100% of bed count for the resident count unless you have an existing facility that can give you good metrics on 'average length of stay' and 'average occupancy.' You can also take the kitchen sink use for an inpatient down to zero. It is common to count inpatients as residents for the water calculations. No one else would be considered a resident. Outpatients are visitors.

Hi Susan Thanks for you answerd In fact, it is a hospital for long-term patients and also for outpatients or short-stay patients. Health Care: Inpatient Nevertheless please, can you tell me if this kind of projects should be considered what kind of occupation is.? Because since according to ASHRAE 90.1 a hospital should be considered as a residential project.

We work on a hospital, using the LEED for Healthcare Rating System. The Healthcare PIf3 form, has a table that includes a Inpatients column. In it we included the number of Inpatients (based on Bedcount) , and left the Residents part at 0. Hope it helps!

Inpatients are considered as either inpatients or residents (the water efficiency calculations). Just ensure that you keep the numbers the same between the PLF3 and the WEp1 forms.

Oscar, about your occupancy - the guidance provided seems to be for multifamily projects. Since yours is healthcare that guidance may not apply if your facility isn't intended to house families. Yours may have occupants per bed rather than assuming two per patient room, or you may not have any suites for example.
