Circadian Lighting for WELL: tools & calcs

Has anyone here performed circadian lighting studies for WELL using rhino/grasshopper (Lark Spectral Lighting)? 

It seems that Lark can only simulate circadian metrics for daylighting, and NOT electric lighting.  Can anyone shed some light on this?  pun intended :)

Are there any other tools out there that would enable us to perform these studies and calculations in-house instead of outsourcing to a lighting consultant?

Hi, Yes, electric lighting simulations can be completed in LARK. As part of a research effort with the GSA, the electric lighting outputs have been validated with physical mockups in conjunction with the Lighting Research Center at Renssaeler. We have yet release the definitions for electric lighting as a LARK official release, but have plans to accomplish this over the next year (labor of love and all...) Do you much experience using LARK? If you were able work through materials definitions and the rest of the process to yield spectrally interactive simulations (colored light x colored materials) than the addition of electric lighting should not be too troublesome. We use the ladybug electric lighting tool with some additional manipulation. If outsourced to a lighting designer, they will most likely use AGI 32 with one of the excel sheets or the EML ratios found in WELL. (In all honesty this may be their first rodeo and will make it up as they go just as you might...) The AGI 32 analysis approach is problematic as the ratios can be inaccurate due to lack of accounting for variability of SPDs across manufactures within the same CCT. Additionally, the spectral impact of the environment is not accounted for, meaning that finishes do not spectrally alter light but merely reflect a neutral colored light source as a percentage of overall reflectance, say 50%, as opposed to say stripping out some spectra of the light source due to finish color (like losing blue content from the reflection off warm tones). The rub is really, do you want to satisfy criteria/meet compliance or create a nurturing lit environment? The analysis path might be different depending upon the rationale as one path is much more nuanced than the other.
