Baseline Case Chiller Selection : Type and number of chiller

Hi Sir

We are working in a  project which has a conditioned area of  >240,000 ft2 and G+11 floors. We consider exceptions to G3.1.1 due to varying operational schedule of the building and designed with single zone systems conforming with the requirements of system 4 for certain zones.

Now the query is either we want to consider the total cooling tons of the building or only the cooling tons of the chiller alone for baseline chiller selection.

Thanks in Advance.

Good question. You could probably do it either way and justify doing so. The language does seem to indicate that the total building peak cooling load should be used. Using the chiller peak cooling load is the more conservative approach and aligns with the LEED application of subtracting the area of the building where any G3.1.1 exceptions are applied before re-entering Table G3.1.1A  to select the predominant baseline system. In our opinion using the chiller tons alone makes the most sense.

Hi Marcus In my data centre, in Data halls IT equipment and Data hall are cooled with chillers. Could you please let me know how I should know if it is considered as process load or space cooling under ASHRAE 90.1.2016

Since your question is unrelated to the original question in this thread please resubmit your question as a separate forum discussion post. That way other people can find it.
