I am modeling exterior lighting for a project in an energy model, the landscaping area is pretty significant when compared to the project building area, overall baseline exterior lighting calculates to be 140 kW, while the proposed design reflects only 30 kW. The proposed design has all LED's and includes landscaping, gravel area, driveways, open parking, walkways and the building surrounded by fencing. The building area is ~100,000 SF, Impervious area is ~470,000 and the total project site area (Lot area) is ~2,500,000 SF.

My question is are these values comparable ? There is a reduction of about ~80%. Is there a way to calculate the landscaping area of the project surrounded by the fencing differently ?

I am not sure what you are trying to compare them to? Reductions of 80% are possbile with 90.1-2010 but less common that under 90.1-2007. I am not sure how you are counting the landscaping area or what you mean by the building area surrounded by fencing as this is not a fradeable surface. It is important to note that only the specific area illuminated in the actual design to the minimum illumination value for that surface can be counted for the baseline. Landscaping lighting should only include the actual area that is illuminated, not the entire landscaped area. Generally the building area is not included for exterior lighting.

Thanks, i have not included the building area in calculation of the exterior lighting. The lot area which i mentioned above includes the building area, and other areas like driveways, walkaways and parking lot. The complete lot area is surrounded by the security fencing, and there is a landscaping area of 2 Million between the security fencing and the driveway surrounding the project building and the open parking at the center of the lot. The LED lighting is present all over the perimeter of the security fencing. Can you assist me under what ASHRAE exterior lighting (Table 9.4.3B) will this area/or lighting on the security fencing would fall? I just want to make sure i am accounting the baseline exterior lighting for fencing and landscaping in an appropriate way. Thanks a lot!
