Hi Everyone!
I'm Lauren Shumaker and I'm a Project Manager/Sustainability Manager with Turner Construction. As a long standing advocate for healthy and sustainable building materials, I look forward to expanding my ability to promote material transparency and shine a greater light on our ability to positively impact human and environmental health within the build environment. I’m a firm believer that together, designers, owners, manufactures, and contractors can influence a change for the better.
As a contractor, our presence in the healthy and sustainable building materials movement has been passive at best. We tend to operate as a middle-man, taking direction from design teams and giving it to manufacturers and subcontractors, spending less time asking questions and striving for improvement. With a broadened contractor involvement, our collective influence as an industry can grow exponentially, and I look forward to supporting the movement through that lens.
As a member of the USGBC, PMTC (Portland Material Transparency Collaborative), HPD advisory committees, and most recently the AIA Material Working Knowledge Group, I’ve dedicated years working through these very issues. I very much look forward to joining this group of passionate individuals who can collectively push towards greater material transparency, creating a positive impact to human/environmental health and well-being.
