Hello - I noticed that there are default SRI values available for use for the ground SRI values through CIR #10411 - just as was done for LEED 2009 - are there some default values that can be used for roof materials as well? Seems cost prohibitive to engage in specific testing of all roof materials specific to the project, when the project is using typical roofing materials.

Lauren, project teams may submit manufacturer’s documentation of SRI or specific material testing results for roof materials. USGBC has not published a CIR allowing for default values for roof materials like they have for nonroof materials. There is a good product search tool at http://coolroofs.org that you might find helpful.

Lauren, in Lv3 - SSc7.2 table 1, the ref guide provides a list of examples of possible SRI values from the Cool Roof Materials Database; however, it is very clear in both the table and the guide text that these do not substitute for actual manufacturer data and the credit back-up has always requested product data or testing data showing performance results as back up. I'm not personally aware of any CIR/LIR that altered that during any update during Lv3. The Cool Roof Rating Council maintains lists and links to numerous compliant product manufacturers and specific products for selection.
I'm not personally a roof engineer :) but my estimate is that since SRI is comprised of two individual performance metrics...and not just a color...that USGBC will continue to request full back up showing a compliant SRI (emissivity and reflectance) and also certification as a cool roof by the CRRC (which implies a performance level on both emissivity and reflectance...but does not guarantee it).
