NC-v4 EQc4:Indoor air quality assessment

IAQ Testing using hand-held instruments

I currently have different TSI instruments which have the capability to measure Total VOCs, PM 2.5 & 10 and CO. Could anyone kindly clarfiy whether these handheld instruments could be used to comply with the credit requirements for these IAQ contaminants?

Also for what contaminants are laboratory testing mandatory? Should a specialist be assigned to collect samples and perform the analysis?

Direct reading, datalogging monitors can only be used for the CO, though they are useful as screening tools to see if levels are likely to pass the LEED criteria.  The VOCs and PMs are assessed using collection media and laboratory analysis.  You should have a Certified Industrial Hygienist do or oversee this sampling since they are the most qualified and knowledgeable about IAQ. and collecting and interpreting air samples.
