We have a LEEDv4 CI Commercial Office space where in addition to those already metered, lighting, plug, etc., the other end uses are heating, cooling, and fan energy. The mechanical system is VRF, heating and cooling are done by the same piece of equipment, often simultaneously. Is it possible to record these as one for this reason? Fan energy vs. heating/cooling (compressor) energy are then the only items we aren’t recording separately.
We could then either, meter the Fan Coils on each floor directly and combine with the DOAS VFD data to determine fan energy, with the remainder of mechanical energy being heating/cooling. OR we could leverage the VRF software, and DOAS VFD, and sub-meter the outdoor VRF units (or entire roof, which could be a single meter) and calculate the fan energy using data from the VRF controls, BMS, and DOAS VFD. Is this an appropriate strategy in order to leverage data already being collected? We would of course explain and support with permanetly installed meters/devies.
