Hi. We are preparing to register a project and submit documentation for the design credits following a split review approach. However the Client has now suggested they might decide to pursue additional design credits with the Contractor during construction stage to achieve a higher level of certification. Is it possible to submit for additional design credits after the design credit review has been undertaken, at construction credit review stage? and if design credits can be submitted with construction credits do they receive preliminary and final reviews or only a final review?
You rely on LEEDuser. Can we rely on you?

Phillipa,
You can submit design credits with the construction phase submittal. If they are submitted with the preliminary construction phase submittal they will receive preliminary and final reviews.
Hi LEEDusers,
Does LEED allow teams to can add new credits as an appeal after the construction final review? This is for LEED 2009 NC
Our understanding is "yes". As long as you don't "accept" the Construction Final Review.
Even if you accept it I am sure they would be happy to let you add an appeal to pursue more points. It is just easier if you do it before accepting.
For additional credit please read te following :
Part 1: Preliminary Review
- You will first submit your application for a preliminary review. GBCI will check your application for completeness and compliance with the selected rating system and attempted credits.
- GBCI will respond with its preliminary review within 20-25 business days, indicating which prerequisites and credits are awarded and which are marked as pending, with a request for more information.
- Your team can accept the preliminary review results as final if you are satisfied, or prepare new or revised documentation or attempt additional credits before submitting for final review.
- The final review stage allows you to submit supplementary information requested by the reviewer during the preliminary review or amend the application. GBCI suggests you submit these clarifications within 25 business days after receiving the preliminary review results. GBCI will then review revised or newly submitted prerequisites and credits, and reconsider any awarded credits or prerequisites for which information has changed since the return of the preliminary review was completed.
- GBCI will respond with a final LEED certification review report within 20-25 business days, marking prerequisites and attempted credits as either awarded or denied.
- Like the preliminary review, you can either accept the review results as final, or revise your application and resubmit for a supplemental (appeal) review.
I understand there is a fee associated with an appeal review added credit. Is there a fee for adding design credits to a construction review?
No fee.
In the Design Phase Review, only design credit can be submitted. They will receive a preliminary and a final review. In the Construction Phase Review construction credits AND design credits can be submitted. They will also receive a preliminary and a final review. Also, If a previously reviewed (and approved) design credit changed during the building construction, it should be updated and resubmitted for review during the Construction Phase Review.
Hi - I just had a design credit denied in the Final Design Review. We have changes the Low-E signs as needed to pass, but will I then have to appeal (read: pay 500$) to get the review team to look at a few photos (with the correct signs) -> or can I wait and resubmit this denied credit in the Construction submittal?
Kind regards, Lise
You have two choices assuming you have not yet accepted the final review. You can appeal as you have indicated or you can challenge the review finding by citing where the reviewer is wrong in their assessment. If the reviewer is not wrong then you will need to appeal. You cannot resubmit additional documentation after two reviews without an appeal.
Hello. Can anyone confirm if this situation has any extra cost/additional fee? "A previously reviewed and approved design credit changed during the building construction and its updated and resubmitted for review during the Construction Phase Review". Thank you!
Karyn, If a previously reviewed and approved design credit has changed since the design phase review and requires another review, you can submit it without an extra cost/fee during the construction phase review.
Hello everybody! we are currently working on a LEED BD+C NC School project, and preparing for preliminary review. For some credits we will not have the possibility to upload documentation at this point (maybe we'll have it during construction). Do you suggest marking the credits as "attempted" on LEED Online or should I mark as attempted just the credits I am currently submitting for preliminary review? not clear if I can switch any moment of the review process. Thank you
Hi Laura. You can mark credits as "attempted" at any point in your development process. Credits that are checked with a green checkmark are what are officially submitted for review - you need to hit the check mark that notes a credit is "Ready for Review." And you will have a chance to review the list of credits to be submitted before officially submitting. It is really up to you and how you are tracking your target strategy, but I always attempt all credits I am targeting at the onset. Although, LEED Online is great in the fact that if you attempt and then withdraw a credit, you can always reattempt it at anytime.
Can we also submit the design 'prerequsites' in the construction review stage?
Hello. We are working on a LEED BD+C project and preparing for the preliminary construction review but we are pending external documentation for one of the construction credit. We will have the documentation at the same time we will receive the preliminary review results. Is it possible to submit this construction credit for the first time during the final construction phase submittal ? In this case, will the credit still receive a preliminary and a final review or only a final review ? Thank you.
You can submit it for the C Final review but it will only get one review.
