NC-2009 MRc2:Construction Waste Management

Concrete & rubble excavated from previous demo

Our project is located on a site where an existing building was demolished a few years back. Once construction started, there turned out to be a large amount of concrete & brick still buried underground. Does this still count as land clearing debris, or can be counted toward construction waste?

Alara - Land-clearing debris is defined by the reference guide (as part of the construction and demolition debris definition) as soil, vegetation, and rocks. To me this list implies non man-made or naturally occurring items. Since your project has uncovered man made materials such as concrete and brick, you should include these items as construction waste.

Hi Michelle, That was my interpretation as well. We have included them, and will be reused in the industry which is why I was looking for reassurance that it was OK to include. Thanks!
