NC-2009 WEc3:Water Use Reduction

Occupancy rate for disabled

Our supplier is providing basin taps with different flowrates for normal washrooms and disabled washrooms. How can I determine the occupancy of the disabled to estimate water usage? 5% of total occupancy or any percentage could be simply applied? Thanks, Mark

Anyone can help?

Hi Mark, This is a similar situation for projects that need to provide supplemental calculations for unisex restrooms without urinals. It is reasonable to calculate this based on the total # of restrooms with the one fixture flow rate vs. restrooms with the different fixture flow rate. However, it is also reasonable to provide a calculation based on the fixture count. In any case, include a narrative and calculations to support your methodology.

Hi Carlie, Could you refer to my case as follow? For instance, there are 3000 FTE within the building and 20 disabled restrooms. How do I know how many people (either normal or disabled people) out of 3000 FTE will use the disabled restrooms? Can I calculate in the following method? For disabled restroom: 3000*5%*1*230*(flow rate A) For normal restroom: 3000*(1-5%)*1*230*(flow rate B) where 5% the percentage of FTE who will use disabled restrooms 1 is once per day 230 is annual working days I am trying to get advice on the "5%", is it reasonable for you? Thanks, Mark
