Hi, I just require come clarification on the Base Build systems. Would it be sufficient to monitor the heating energy onto each tenant floor using energy valves OR are we required to use Advanced Energy Meters for the Boiler Gas input. Advanced Gas meters would some cost to the project considering we will already have Gas Utility meters.
For example should the gas meters record at intervals of one hour or less, and transmit data to a remote location. ?

If you have a central boiler that supplies hot water to the tenant spaces then the energy source for the tenant spaces would be the hot water.

Just following on from the question above. If we have central boilers, installed under the C&S contract, to serve core areas and tenant areas, does the gas meter that feeds these boilers needs to be advanced meters ? This meter is a utility meter therefore does not always have the capability to connect to the BMS without some level of upgrade ? Another was to look at is that we are not supplying gas to the tenant areas, only hot water therefore do we just need advanced meters to cover the hot water. I would be very grateful if you could clarify if base building utility meters mus meet this advanced criteria.

When you read the Reference Guide on this subject it does indicate that all of these meters need to be advanced. I agree that this is often not practical for utility meters. I am not certain how GBCI is handling this situation but it has come up in more than one of the discussion threads on this forum.

Hello Ciaran,
did you find any solution to this? We have a similar situation and I am wondering whether adding an advanced gas meter is neccessary or utility meter would be sufficcient..

Similar scenario for us as well. Curious to hear if anyone can offer insight from past project experience or discussions with GBCI.

I'm not aware of any exceptions to the requirement for the whole-building energy source meters to be advanced. I'm typically seeing this accomplished by using an advanced natural gas meter downstream of the utility meter.
