CI-v4 EAc5:Enhanced refrigerant management

Scope

For a CI project with minimal new HVAC equipment is the credit scope limited to equipment within the scope of the project only, or is there a hurdle below which base building equipment must comply (as in option 1 of v3 EAc1.3?) Many of our projects only have supplemental cooling for servers and UPS.

Michael, All base building and existing refrigerant-using equipment that serve the project space need to be included in the credit calculations. Even if the project scope only includes installation of CRAC units, you would need to include all base building equipment that will serve your project space. Only small systems with less than 0.5 pounds of refrigerant are exempt from this credit.

Do we have to include Base Building units if our tenant area is only receiving chilled water?  There is no refrigerant coming into our space.

Yes- If the tenant space is being served by the base building equipment, it should be included.

Hi Casey, just an added query. LEED reviewer commented below: "It is noted that the project is served by central base building chillers; however, it appears that the base building chillers with full capacity are included in the calculation. For future projects, the project team must include a weighted average calculation based on both downstream and upstream equipment." What is the weighted average they are referring?

I recieved the same comment regarding the weighted average calculation, what did you end up doing in your submission?

Did we recieve any feedback regarding upstream and downstream calculations?
