Hi,
Is the “LEED interpretation ID # 10235” available for a LEED v4 project?
LEED interpretation ID # 10235:
Roof area that consists of functional, usable spaces- such as helipads, recreation courts, and areas covered by equipment, solar panels, and appurtenances- can be exempted from the roof calculations for SSc7.2. Projects are not eligible for SSc7.2 if the exempted spaces encompass the entire roof area. Applicable Internationally.
We have a helipad in our project.
Thanks.

Great question. LEED ID #10235 does not specifically state applicability to LEED v4 but I think the logic holds. I have asked around and will post a response when received.

Juan: I have an update for you. As of now, LEED Interpretation 10235 does NOT apply to v4 projects. I believe this is because Heat Island Effect Roof and Non-Roof credits are combined in v4.

Then, if LEED interpretation ID # 10235 can only be applied to v2009: Roof area that consists of functional, usable spaces- such as helipads, recreation courts, and areas covered by equipment, solar panels, and appurtenances- can be exempted from the roof calculations for SSc7.2. Projects are not eligible for SSc7.2 if the exempted spaces encompass the entire roof area. Applicable Internationally.
NOW for v4,
Solar panels area on the roof do count and are not exempted from the total project roof area, is it correct?
Also, on the roof does the solar panel and its structure/frame itself must comply with a certain SRI?

In the Reference Guide, under Step-By-Step Guidance, it states the following: "Applicable roof area excludes roof area covered by mechanical equipment, solar energy panels, skylights, and any other appurtenances."
I would not worry about the solar panel structure/frame.

Thank you Emily.
I'm just looking at the Heat Island Reduction NCv4 active form right now.
Sorry if I insist but then solar panels area on the roof:

Looking at the form, you would not list solar panel area in the table for "Contributing high-reflectance roof."
In the table further down for "Summary of nonroof and roof" you would not count the solar panel area in the SF for the "Total project roof area" line.
