I’m modelling a student house. In some rooms there is an independent kitchen, while in some other rooms there isn't. The students that will occupy the second kind of rooms will use common kitchens. If I understood the definition of dwelling unit correctly, only the rooms of the first type are dwelling units, correct? I'm using v2009_Minimum Energy Performance Calculator_April_18_2016. It asks: “Project has residential Dwelling Units?”. If I select “Yes”, in the sheet “schedule” the hours per year fans running continuously are 8760 and I cannot change it. Shall I model the dwelling units as always occupied? Is it a rule of ASHRAE 90.1? Since they are students, they will spend a lot of time outside their rooms.
