NC-2009 EAp2:Minimum Energy Performance

EAc1 Credits Using DES Option 1 + A lot of Renewables

We have a project opting to maximize the 19points of EAc1. The project is served by a District Cooling Plant. If the project will only use the Option 1 of DES Guideline which limits the project energy points to 10, can we still get all the 19 points by providing Solar PVs and Solar Thermal Panels to bring down the energy demand and consumption apart from the DES 10 point contribution? What if we push the project to Net Zero, How will the DES Guideline be followed if it restricts the Option 1 (Downstream Only) to 10 points? Ref: Treatment of District or Campus Thermal Energy for LEED V2 and LEED 2009 - Design and Construction, Table 1 - Page 10 How about the approach of this strategy if we use LEED V4? Thank you in advance.

The DES is not clear on this issue. So I would advise that you skip the DES altogether and apply 90.1-2007 Addendum ai. There are some differences. This gets around the point cap issue and will allow you to earn all 19 points. If applying ASHRAE 90.1 2007 addendum ai, refer to ASHRAE 90.1 2007 addendum ai, Sections G3.1.1.1.1 through G3.1.3.10, for heating and cooling energy requirements. Any ASHRAE 90.1 2007 addenda implemented must be applied in whole and consistently among all LEED credits and prerequisites and the submittal documentation must clearly indicate any addenda that have been applied to the project documentation.
