EBOM-2009 MRc6:Solid Waste Management—Waste Stream Audit

Is it OK to use different units of measurement for MRc6 + MRc7?

A client had a waste audit done for MRc6 in weight (36% landfill diversion) and we analyzed MRc7 in volume (55% landfill diversion). The volume analysis included private tenant paper shredding, which gave the project an advantage. Now our LEED reviewer is questioning how the audit was so much lower. In addition to explaining the paper shredding inclusion in our response, we are clarifying that they used different units of measurement, so they can't be compared fairly. But now we're questioning if there is a requirement that both credits use the same units of measurement? We're not finding clarification anywhere. Advice?

I don't believe you're required to use the same unit across credits, just within the same credit. It's fairly common for teams to conduct the waste audit by volume because it's easier, but haulers often provide monthly reports in weight. You should definitely mention the paper shredding piece in your clarification as well, since that helps explain the source of the discrepancy and the higher diversion rate under MRc7.
