EBOM-2009 SSc7.2:Heat Island Reduction—Roof

Roof cleaning and water

If LEED reviewers are now rejecting hardscape management plans for using power washing (water), does anyone know if using "water" to clean our roof will be rejected? Is power washing of a roof allowed? I do not think we can get our roof as clean as we would like with out using water.

Hi Kimberly, Power washing equipment may be considered 'low environmental impact' if it is electric or battery powered versus gas powered. Low decibal equipment and manual activities are also considered to be 'low environmental impact' by GBCI. I am a bit surprised to hear GBCI would reject a plan that incorporates "water" as the cleaning agent. Can you confirm that GBCI rejected the power washer itself or did they reject the use of water? Thank you.
