Separate Demolition Package from Construction Package

Margaret - When I first saw your question, I went to the Reference Guide (no guidance on this issue there) and then to the MPRs. At first glance I didn’t see anything applicable.

If you look at the thread in LEED-CI, you’ll see that is followed up by a well-written response by Susan Walter - http://www.leeduser.com/credit/CI-2009/MRc2?all-comments=true#comment-17257. I think that Susan is referring to the intent of MPR # 3 - Must Use a Reasonable Site Boundary, which is: “All site conditions and impacts related to a building must be considered and addressed in the certification process to ensure a complete and thorough examination of the environmental impacts of a building.” (See Supplemental Guidance to MPRs - http://www.usgbc.org/resources/leed-2009-mpr-supplemental-guidance-revis....)

I agree with Susan that it is technically required. My approach has always been that if the demolition work is occurring within the LEED project boundary and it is being done in order to complete the LEED project, then it should be included. (And it is the right thing to do too!)
