NC-2009 PIf3:Occupant and Usage Data

Complex Occupancy Upload PIf3-1

The requirement for this upload is to provide project FTE calculations including daily and annual patterns. Include details on transients, customers, peak and average numbers. I'm not sure how to capture this information. Is there a template? I could really use some examples of how others have addressed this successfully. This is for a conference center and the occupancy is constantly changing.

Daily averages and peak totals consider occupant use within a 24-hour period. When these numbers vary daily or for specific events, you will need to use occupancy numbers that are a representative daily average over the entire year/operating season of the building. I have not yet found a USGBC calculator for this scenario.

The conference center should have data on "visitor" numbers and days of use. If this is a new project, the numbers would be projections, but would have been used to create the program (and prior to that, to justify the project). As a worst case, use the code occupancy numbers, but average it down by the percentage occupancy of the facility. (e.g. 75% of the facility is used, 75% of the time.) You will also have to convert the number of hours it is in use to the equivalent 8-hour day. AND make sure to coordinate with your plumbing engineer to make sure you are both using the same numbers, and the same criteria. Good luck!
