Hotel as Commercial or Residential?

We have a mixed use project for which we proposed 5% bike racks for all areas that were not part of the hotel guests (casino, retail, restaurant, conference area, etc); for the hotel portion, we proposed providing 1% racks. This is the response we received: "This approach is appropriate. According to the LEED interpretations regarding hotels and resorts, bicycle storage must be provided for employees and visitors (such as retail customers and conference room users), and showers must be provided for employees. Even if visitors are expected to spend a full day at the facility, it is not necessary to provide showers for those occupants. Hotel guests may be excluded entirely from the calculations, so it is not necessary to document the bicycle and shower facilities provided to guests. Please provide a copy of the narrative/occupant breakdown calculations you've provided here in your review submittal, to make your approach clear to the reviewer." This is just for reference, in case others have a similar project. I would recommend getting official guidance from USGBC like we did.

Thanks Emily! I wonder if LEED would consider applying that reasoning to destination venues (like convention centers) that draw large numbers out-of-town visitors. Has anyone tried that?
