Use of Actual Building Data

Hi, The LEED guidance for minimum building energy performance requires compliance to be demonstrated by comparing a simulation model with an ASHRAE 90.1 baseline. If some of our project buildings are complete and we have actual building data, is it known if it would be acceptable to use this data to document compliance in place of a simulation?

Philippa, using the Special Circumstances section of the prerequisite form, it should be ok to submit a year's performance data as long as it clearly provides the same documentation of savings that modeling output does. Keep in mind that any buildings submitted for this prerequisite must be constructed or renovated as part of a project, and cannot be existing buildings as discussed in our earlier exchange. Eliot

Eliot is right, but because there is no formal alternative compliance path (ACP) established for this yet I would encourage project teams interested in exploring this option to contact GBCI early on in the process to discuss your project specifics.
